Living With a Narcissist: How Can You Spot a Narcissist Before Getting Involved? by Dr. Sanam Hafeez

Q. "How can you spot a narcissist before becoming romantically involved?"
If your partner is boasting about themselves, overly conscious about their appearance, unaffectionate and needing constant attention, you are most likely entangled with a narcissist. Do not confuse charming and empathetic with a narcissist. At first, a narcissist may make grand gestures with fancy dinners, vacations, constant compliments and gifts, but they do this to lure someone into their web.
Your narcissistic partner will often talk about themselves, but will mute out everything you have to say. They will only engage in a conversation if the narcissist believes it will benefit them. A narcissist feeds off your compliments and will put a person down if that makes their ego boost. Constant belittling and sarcastic humor is a narcissistic form of gaining control.
