17. Why did you start the 30Second Mom Favorites program?

Parents are busier than ever, and they rely on their mobile devices to search for information and product reviews. In fact, 61 percent of U.S. moms own a smartphone (Arbitron & Edison Research), half of all moms use mobile devices to access social networks (eMarketer), and moms spend an average of 6.1 hours a day with their smartphones (BabyCenter)!

When searching reviews and shopping online and via mobile, parents need a source they can turn to for quick and credible reviews and referrals to products they can trust. 30Second Mom is the on-the-go parent’s guide for great information. Since launching in 2011, 30Second Mom has gained a reputation for credible content that busy parents can access via mobile and read or view on video in 30seconds or less. As pioneers in social/mobile media, we have been featured on WGN-TV, Fast Company, Crain’s Chicago Business, The Huffington Post, Chicago Parent and more. We were named one of the Top 5 Hottest Start-ups in Chicago by the Digital Collective, and were a finalist for App of the Year by the Moxie Awards!

In response to our audience’s requests for credible information on products for their families, 30Second Mom started accepting submissions from companies who wish to have their product reviewed by 30Second Mom. We developed the Favorites program in order to have a credible process for reviewing products and determining award levels.

18. What are the Favorites program award levels?

There are three levels of awards in the Favorites program. If we Like a product, it’ll earn the 30Second Mom "Likes This" bronze award. If we feel even more strongly about it, it may earn the 30Second Mom "Loves This" silver award. Then, each season, we’ll review all of our Likes This and Loves This items to determine our Favorites. This is an exclusive collection of the most desirable products we reviewed that season, and only our Favorites earn the 30Second Mom "Favorite" gold award!

Depending on which award a product earns, the company automatically gets to use either the 30Second Mom Likes This or Loves This seal. If a product eventually becomes one of our Favorites, it then gets to use the Favorite seal. All award-winning companies are eligible to participate in a variety of cost-effective, customized 30Second Mom branding/marketing programs designed to get the word out and build buzz about their product.

19. How does 30Second Mom decide what it Likes, Loves or considers a Favorite?

The 30Second Mom Favorites program reviews products using a proprietary process based upon criteria that it establishes and may revise from time to time, and it retains the right to grant or not grant awards based on its sole and absolute discretion. At the end of a review period, 30Second Mom decides if a product will be recognized with a Likes This or Loves This award, or neither. Each season, we will re-evaluate all of our Likes This and Loves This items to determine our Favorites. The products that are selected as Favorites will earn the 30Second Mom Favorite gold award.

30Second Mom team members have a deep background in reviewing products. Elisa All, founder of 30Second Mom, previously founded iParenting Media and the iParenting Media Awards program, a leading product review and awards program determining the best products for families. The company was highly regarded for its expertise, and iParenting was acquired by the Walt Disney Company in 2007.

20. Does 30Second Mom review the safety of a product?

No, 30Second Mom’s review, analysis, commentary, and/or grant of an award shall under no circumstances be deemed to constitute any opinion, representation, or warranty as to the safety of the products by anyone at 30Second Mom/30Second Mobile LLC, its officers, directors, agents and employees.

21. What happens after a product earns the Likes This or Loves This award?

After a product has been reviewed, the company will be notified of its product’s status via email. If the product did not obtain a Likes This or Loves This award, the company will be notified and nothing further will occur. If the product obtained a Likes This or Loves This award, the company will be notified with details about how it can use the award seal that matches its status. It also then may participate in 30Second Mom customized branding/marketing programs designed to spread the word and build buzz about the product.

Once a product has been recognized with the Likes This or Loves This award, it is automatically eligible to be considered for Favorite status. Each season, 30Second Mom reviews all products that have been recognized with the Likes This or Loves This award in order to determine its Favorites. Products that are designated a Favorite earn the 30Second Mom Favorite gold award. The exclusive list of Favorites will be announced through 30Second Mom, social networks and other online and traditional media channels.

22. What happens if a product does not earn an award?

If the product did not obtain a Likes This or Loves This award, the company will be notified and nothing further will occur. Because 30Second Mom wants to only promote companies we believe in, products that do not earn our Likes This, Loves This or Favorite awards will not be eligible to participate in the 30Second Mom Favorites branding/marketing programs.
