Ode to the People With Invisible Disabilities: You Are Seen

Today, my heart swells with gratitude that you caught a glimpse of the intricate tapestry of physical pain that intertwines with my daily life battling lupus.

You observed my face, aflame like a tomato, and in that moment, you couldn't turn away from the tempest raging within. Your touch on my head and the whispered words of support served as a soothing elixir for the silent struggle.

Yet, when I present an exterior that appears perfectly fine, the concealed pain makes it a challenge to draw attention, even though, truthfully, I yearn for it. However, like the 10 to 30 percent of our population grappling with invisible disabilities, I press on in silence.

They say not to judge a disability by its visibility, but society often does. Compassion more readily flows toward those with visible pain, like a broken arm.

We, the silent warriors, cultivate our internal strength and find solace to navigate the toughest days. Advocacy becomes an art, self-reliance transforms into a necessity.

To those wrestling with internal battles, I want you to feel this: I see you. The world might not always, but you don't fight alone. Your invisibility does not go unnoticed. This is more than a battle cry; it’s an anthem of  resilience.
