To make this low-sodium, sweet strawberry sauce recipe you need just four simple ingredients and some water. The chopped strawberries are cooked with granulated sugar, water, lemon juice and a cornstarch slurry (it thickens it up) on the stovetop. Once it gets syrupy, the sauce is ready to be drizzled, poured or spooned over whatever you like.

  • 2 cups chopped fresh strawberries
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice 
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Here's how to make it: 

  1. Put the chopped strawberries, sugar, 1/3 cup water and lemon juice in a saucepot. 
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the cornstarch and 2 tablespoons water to create a slurry. Whisk it into the ingredients in the saucepot. 
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring, and cook about 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat and use as desired.
