Q: A good trench coat is a great staple to have in your closet. With all the choices out there which one should you invest in?
- A trench today comes in prints, lace, suede and a variety of other fabrics than the original khaki-colored waterproof gabardine. Choose one that will give you the most wear if you cannot have one for day and one for going out.
- Shorter curvier girls should opt for a medium-size trench. Petite ladies should wear short trenches that reach just around the hips, and taller women have the ability to carry off the long coats with great dramatic flair.
- When it comes to colors, the original khaki is versatile and anyone can wear it. I would recommend jewel and pastel tones for lighter-skinned women and warm vibrant hues for darker skin tones.
- Wear the fitted trench buttoned and fastened for a chic polished look. A less-structured piece can be worn open and not only with pants but with skirts, dresses and even with shorts and rompers.

Q: How do I assimilate one of spring 2018’s trends – dark denim.
- Dark denim brings to mind dark-washed jeans and there are some gorgeous ones out there. But you can also find wonderful tailored trousers, jackets and even shirt dresses in this hue and fabric.
- If you have curves get a boot-cut or straight-leg pair of jeans. The dark wash and the flair elongates the leg. Slim fit jeans in dark washes suit a lot more women than lighter washes.
- If you like to wear denim to work, you can look into some relatively inexpensive options by Tibi. Look at the shirtdress, the long tailored skirt and even tailored trousers. But whatever the wash, light or dark, try not to wear jeans with faded fronts especially along the thighs. This just accentuates the leg and makes it look heavier.

Q: With asymmetric and square necklines popular this spring what will suit me?
- Asymmetrical necklines suit almost every body type but are best for average to smaller busted woman with slim arms and narrow shoulders.
- Round necks are versatile and suitable to all body types, but boat necks will slim, widen and extend narrow shoulders and elongate the neck.
- The sweetheart, scoop, v-shaped and square necklines draw attention to the neck and chest area making a woman look longer and leaner.
- Unless you have flawless proportions, the strapless look accentuates the heaviness or lean look of the body, so I would recommend staying away from it.

Q: Is the fanny pack truly back?
Yes, it is, and it is much cooler now with labels like Gucci bringing out their own versions. Today’s fanny pack is slightly different from the one of old. Most are worn as a close fitted cross body bag or belted through the loops of pants. Don’t resurrect your original from the 90s. If you do want to adopt this trend (it can be quite convenient) go out and buy a modified one – SoJourner at $14 all the way to Gucci’s $1,100 bag.

Q: With the warmth and sunshine comes the added worry of protecting my skin from the sun. How can I do that and still be fashionable?
Well, besides the obvious sunscreen, this spring’s runway has a lot of models in oversized straw hats. From Panamas to stylized Fedoras or the ever-popular, feminine, sexy floppy hat – the choices are endless. Straw hats are exceptionally versatile. In the original straw color it can be worn on the beach as well as to a luncheon. Wear it casual – with palazzos, shorts, rompers. Dyed straw hats are very elegant. Remember Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman?” So yes, they can be part of a glam ensemble as well.

Q: Is there a staple from past seasons that I can bring into spring 2018 and not be considered dated?
I believe there are a lot of pieces that can be considered timeless and fashionable from season to season. One such piece is the button-down shirt. This season the button-down shirt has been given a bit of an update – it’s collarless. It has a little more relaxed vibe, but still smart enough to wear to work. The button-down shirt is not just a work piece. In a silk, slightly loose or in jewel tones and it can be dressed up for an evening out. Or the ultimate … in lace!

Q: What kinds of shoes are trending this spring?
This particular spring we have a wide variety of shoes that are popular. There is sure to be something for everyone. For a country or casual look cowboy boots, strappy sandals and slip on sneakers – some dressed up with a bit of sparkle, bling and exotic skins. There are also dressy booties, kitten heels, high heels and even brogues for women are in, too. The one shoe that has been given the boot this season is the “sky-high” stilletto.
