Traveling During Pregnancy: 11 Great Tips for a Memorable Trip

Being pregnant doesn’t mean you have to stop traveling. It does mean you have to travel a little differently. Making memories with your unborn baby can be an amazing and memorable experience. Here are some tips for traveling while pregnant:

  • Wait until your second trimester. Usually the second trimester comes with big energy boosts, less nausea and exhaustion, perfect for seeing the world.
  • Take a copy of your prenatal chart and clearance from your OB-GYN just in case you need to visit a doctor or hospital elsewhere.
  • If you do need a doctor, contact the American Embassy for recommendations or ask your hotel.
  • Check with your insurance policy to understand what to do and what is covered if you need to see a doctor or go to the hospital.
  • When flying get up and walk around the plane every hour. Pregnant women are more prone to blood clots. Consider wearing compression socks
  • Bring a journal and document the trip to share with your baby when they are older.
  • Wear comfortable and supportive shoes if you will be walking a lot.
  • Create a realistic travel plan allowing time for you to rest and relax.
  • Bring a water bottle with you to make sure you are staying hydrated.
  • Pack snacks.

Oh Sheri B Doyle, wish I had these tips when I was pregnant. When we had our restaurant went on vacation in Colorado with the family. We rented a beautiful house, the snow and views were beautiful. But I was pregnant in my first trimester and the change in elevation made me feel green and nauseous pretty much the entire trip. Think there were only a few hours I felt good when eating at an amazing Italian restaurant.. My go to comfort food.

What a bummer Meredith Schneider glad you found a good restaurant to at least give you a few hours of relief.
