Sippin' On Bubbles & Juice Mocktail Recipe: A Hydrating Non-Alcoholic Drink With Health Benefits (and Fizzle)

Confession time: I started drinking way more wine a week than I'm comfortable with. I don't have to drink wine, but I enjoy drinking wine. My adult daughter was in town recently and told me about what she's drinking now in place of wine: a sparking juice mocktail. She said she found that sometimes it's just the act of sipping on something, holding that wine glass, that you need while you're cooking dinner or watching your favorite TV series, not actually the wine. After trying this bubbly mocktail recipe, I'm hooked on sippin' on mineral water and juice.

The fizzy mocktail is made with sparkling mineral water, 100-percent grapefruit juice, orange juice, pineapple juice or your favorite juice, lime and lemon. Simply squeeze the juice of one lemon and lime wedge into a wine glass (or whatever glass you like), add sparking mineral water and then enough juice to make it taste right for you. I use about 3 parts sparking mineral water to 1 part juice. Garnish with a slice of citrus and you have a refreshing mocktail to sip on.

My favorite is grapefruit juice, though cranberry is a close second. Not only are you getting hydration from this drink, but there are many health benefits of mineral water. Mineral water, which is also known as spring water, has high amounts of calcium carbonate, magnesium sulfate, potassium and sodium sulfate. Mineral water may also contribute to heart health, help lower blood pressure and relieve constipation. Not bad!

Here's how to make it:

  1. Squeeze one lemon wedge and one lime wedge into a wine glass (or any glass).
  2. Add desired amount of sparking mineral water (I do about 3 parts water to 1 part juice)
  3. Add desired amount of fruit juice.
  4. Garnish with a slice of lime, lemon or orange.
