Here's what you need to make these flavor-packed, gluten-free baked beans: great northern beans, bacon, minced garlic, onion, bell pepper, salt and pepper, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, maple syrup, water, Tabasco Chipotle Sauce and barbecue rub. Serve these savory baked beans as a side dish at your next family gathering and wait for the oohs and aahs.

  • You can use any color of bell peppers you prefer in this recipe.
  • Make ahead if you like, and refrigerate for up to four days.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave.

Here's how to make them:

  1. Drain soaked beans, then place in a stockpot or soup pot and cover with water to about 1 inch above beans. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 1 hour, adding water if necessary. Drain beans.
  2. Cook bacon in a pan or skillet until crisp. Remove bacon from pan, leaving rendered fat in pan. Crumble bacon after it cools.
  3. Add onions and bell peppers to pan and cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until softened but not translucent. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large baking dish add beans, onion/pepper/garlic mix from skillet and remaining ingredients. Mix well. 
  5. Bake for 1 1/2 hours or until beans are tender and liquids have thickened around beans. Serve.
