Chef's Flavor-Packed Maple Chipotle Baked Beans Recipe: The Star of Your Next Barbecue by 30Seconds Food

Chef's Flavor-Packed Maple Chipotle Baked Beans Recipe: The Star of Your Next Barbecue

Wondering what to make for your next barbecue? We recommend some seriously delicious baked beans, which can be the star of any outdoor meal. These maple chipotle baked beans by a celebrity chef bring maximum flavor to any meal and may be the highlight of your next barbecue.

"Good side dishes at any barbecue party are mandatory, and with a little work can be the star of the show!" says Melissa Cookston, celebrity chef and judge on the Netflix food show American Barbecue Showdown. "At any outdoor picnic, baked beans are good. However, maple chipotle baked beans made from scratch are awesome!"

Here's what you need to make these flavor-packed, gluten-free baked beans: great northern beans, bacon, minced garlic, onion, bell pepper, salt and pepper, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, maple syrup, water, Tabasco Chipotle Sauce and barbecue rub. Serve these savory baked beans as a side dish at your next family gathering and wait for the oohs and aahs.

Melissa recommends you revel in the recipe requests from friends and family. "Soak up the adoration from those poor souls still making baked beans from a can," she says. "Yes, you too can win 'Battle Baked Bean' and fool everybody into thinking it was hard work!"

Recipe Notes

  • You can use any color of bell peppers you prefer in this recipe.
  • Make ahead if you like, and refrigerate for up to four days.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave.

Here's how to make them:

  1. Drain soaked beans, then place in a stockpot or soup pot and cover with water to about 1 inch above beans. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 1 hour, adding water if necessary. Drain beans.
  2. Cook bacon in a pan or skillet until crisp. Remove bacon from pan, leaving rendered fat in pan. Crumble bacon after it cools.
  3. Add onions and bell peppers to pan and cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until softened but not translucent. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large baking dish add beans, onion/pepper/garlic mix from skillet and remaining ingredients. Mix well.
  5. Bake for 1 1/2 hours or until beans are tender and liquids have thickened around beans. Serve.
